Engage to Change at the Learning Disability Wales Annual Conference
We had a fantastic day last week at Right Here, the Learning Disability Wales Annual Conference at Glasdir Business and Conference Centre in Llanrwst! The conference looked at the importance of people with a learning disability being seen, heard, included, and valued in all walks of life, and followed the Learning Disability Wales South Wales Annual Conference the previous week at Holiday Inn in Newport.
At both conferences we were treated to a presentation from our Engage to Change Ambassadors – in the South, Michael Allcock and George Breeze, and in the North, Elsa Jones and Jonathan Tranter. They talked about how the project has supported them to be included and valued in work, increasing their confidence, developing their independence, and improving their well-being.
In Llanrwst, conference chair Shayna from Conwy Connect for Learning Disabilities guided us through the day, as we took in a Q&A from Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services Julie Morgan, and presentations from All Wales People First Chief Executive Joe Powell on self-advocacy, the North Wales Transformation Project, Gig Buddies, and Katie Whitlow from Welsh Youth Parliament.
Special mention to the musical performance project Ghostbuskers from TAPE Community Music and Film for giving us all the opportunity to belt out a Spice Girls number during their energetic workshop!
