Sam excels as a Learning Support Assistant
Sam Fox accessed the Engage to Change project in January 2017 through ELITE Supported Employment. After meeting his advisor Kate Goode to complete initial paperwork and assessments, they began to talk about what job Sam would like to do. Sam told Kate that he really wanted to work in a school and particularly would like to work with children with disabilities.
Soon afterwards, Craig y Parc School in Pentyrch were advertising for Learning Support Assistants. Kate supported Sam to complete an application and he was invited to an interview in April. Sam wanted to attend the interview himself so Kate visited Sam the week before and completed some interview preparation together. Sam did brilliantly in the interview and was offered a full-time position as a Learning Support Assistant.
After completing some initial induction training in May, Sam started his job on 5 June. Kate visited Sam after a week and he told her “I have found my first week brilliant. I was a bit nervous at the start but quickly settled in and am enjoying work”.
Sam’s supervisor Zsuzsa Blackmore said, “Sam has settled in very well. He is a hard-working member of our team. Sam had a fantastic first week. He supported students in class and they were all wanting Sam to support them. He is a great role model for our students and he gets on well with all the LSAs.”
Well done Sam!
